Photo Assignment 6 - Black and White

For the sixth photo assignment I chose to do black and white.  I took pictures of both still life objects and people in motion.

No editing

ISO = 200
Exposure = 1/320 sec
Aperture = f/4

What I learned was what things would look best in black and white, and what I needed to change in order for it to look good in black and white.  The hardest part was finding or adjusting the subject to make it look good in black and white.  Or for the motion catching the person in the right place.

Gimp Dictionary Assignment

For this assignment we had to think of a word and put pictures together that we think express the word we chose.  We had to put 3 or 4 pictures together to form one complete picture.  We had to create 4 total.

I had to do a lot of resizing and erasing of pictures.  The pictures i had to erase were the pictures that i put on top of other ones but some of the picture I didn't want to so i erased out those parts to show the picture beneath.  It was also a challenge to find certain pictures I wanted and made them fit together in a way that looked good.

Photo Assignment 5 - Event

For my fifth photo assignment I decided to do an event, the event was the regional track meet hosted by our school.

I changed the colors of the original picture to bring out the yellow and make the girl stand out more. I also sharpened the photo to try and take away some of the fuzziness around her.

ISO = 200
Aperture = f/8
Exposure = 1/80 sec

I learned how to time pictures better, also how to adjust my settings to better take motion pictures.

Gimp Portrait Demo

In this assignment we used the library to take portrait photos of kids in our class. We also went somewhere in our school to take a portrait photo but this time using a reflective board to get more light into the picture.

In GIMP we had to follow instructions on what to do, but we also had to use what we already knew about GIMP to finish the assignment, like learn how to frame using the layers tool.

School Editing Assignment

For this in class assignment we had to take a picture of some place in school or on the grounds. Then we came back and used to GIMP to edit our pictures. We had to add other pictures from websites to put in our photo and make it look as real as possible.

I took a picture of the side of the library then found on the internet a picture of an aquarium and fit it to the side of the wall. I had to re-size the photo using the perspective tool on GIMP. I also had to enlarge and scale the photo multiple times making sure the objects in the pictures were not fuzzy or distorted.

Photo Assignment 4 - Nature

This assignment I went outside to take pictures of nature.  It had been raining all weekend so in most of the pictures I took the colors are very vivid and bright.

The only editing that I did with this picture was raising the color levels up to give it richer and darker colors.
ISO = 80
Exposure = 1/10 sec
Aperture = f/2.8

The hardest part about this assignment was getting a clear picture of the flowers since the wind was blowing.  Also since it was windy and cold most of the flower petals had blown away or the flowers had died.

Motion Demo

For this assignment we had to take pictures of our teacher on his motorcycle riding around.  We had to make sure that he was clear in the picture with lots of motion blur behind him.

Photo Assignment 3 - Architecture

For my third assignment I decided to take pictures of architecture.  I went to downtown Ann Arbor to do this.

No editing
ISO = 1600
Exposure = 1/50 sec
Aperture = f/3.5

The hardest part about taking these pictures is since it was during the night time some of my pictures that i took had a lot of digital noise or look blotchy.  Also, people kept stepping in my way or I had to take it from far away because there was to much traffic to get across the road.  What I learned from this is how to change the exposure to get the picture to come out clearer when at night.

Gimp Panoramic Assignment

In this Gimp assignment we had to work with panoramic's. Our class had to go around our school and take three photos in line with each other, so when we put them together it would look like one photo.

In Gimp I had to use many different tools. To blend together the lines where the photos overlapped I used the eraser. I used the color levels tool to help make the colors better match. To connect the lines on the wall I had to slightly bend the wall and move the photo right under the middle photo.

The hardest part about this assignment was getting ever thing to line up and look right. Also remembering what tools did what, and how to use them properly to get what I want.

What I learned through this assignment was how to create a panoramic photo and use the Gimp tools more effectively.

Photo Assignment 2 - Macro

For our classes second photo assignment, I decided to do macro photographs. Macro pictures are pictures when you get close up to the subject you are going to take a picture of. Making sure you get all the small details, things you normally wouldn't or couldn't see in a normal photo.

ISO =80
Exposure = 1/1000
Shutter = f/2.8

What I learned from this assignment is how to use the macro setting, and how to find and take a photography of my subject close up. The hardest part about this assignment was finding good subjects to take pictures of, and not getting them to look fuzzy or distorted.
